Citation: While performing ante-mortem inspection at approximately 10:20 am on 10 Lambs in pen 5, 1 Dairy Cow in pen 4, and 1 Lamb in pen 1 found the following Non-Compliance. In each pen mentioned above there was no water available for the animals being held in each pen. This is a violation of 9 CFR 313.2 (e) which states: "Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer that 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down". was informed of the non-compliance and I informed him that no animals would proceed to slaughter until the animals were provided water and acceptable preventive measures were proposed. immediately provided water to all the pens mentioned above and verbally proposed to make sure animals have water. After immediate corrective actions and preventive measures I informed that the animals may proceed to slaughter. Past Similar NRs - Previous Ineffective Plant Actions: Kill floor employees to verify every 30 minutes that animals in pens have access to water. NR: 28-2010 dated 12/6/2010

Regulation:

313.2(e) Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer than 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down.
